COMMON RECEPTION PROBLEMS

PROBLEM
POSSIBLE REASONS
SOLUTION

I can receive the 24-hour test stations (both vertical and horizontal polarization) on PAS-10, but I cannot receive
programs on 3.5155 Ghz

LNB is not the extended version: If your downlink installation is older than 3 years, you may have an old LNB (3.7 to 4.2 Ghz) which does not receive on the lower 3.5155 frequency as it is outside of the range.

Take out the LNB and check on the label.
It should read: 3.4 - 4.2 Ghz which is the extended C-band LNB.
If you need to buy a new one, ask for: C-band: Digital LNB, suitable for extended C-band [3.4 - 4.2Ghz], Linear, dual frequency, S/N ratio 0.8dB or better. Also try to get 17 degrees K or lower.
Some good brands are: Acer, California Amplifier, Eagle Aspen, ElSat, Eurostar, Fortec Star, Zintech.

Parameters entered incorrectly If you use a receiver which allows only 5 numerals to be entered, assume the decimal point / dot to be after the second numeral.

Examples
Freqency of 3.5155 - enter as 03516, Symbol Rate of 4.4440 - enter as 04444

Dish antenna /LNB not correctly tuned

Check and tune:

  • Dish antenna: elevation and compass direction
  • LNB: Offset and focal length

See ATN Installation Manual on website (Step 6 at end, and Step 8)

LNB Sensitivity low Test with another LNB of a different brand - at least 17degrees K or lower
Dish antenna distorted, damaged or bent Hold 2 pieces of string / nylon across face of dish at 90 degrees to each other - should touch lightly where they cross each other. Reassemble and correct damage if necessary.
LNB & Receiver (Scientific Atlanta only) frequencies out of sync Increase or decrease the frequency very slightly so that the AFC level on Receiver Setup screen is as close to 0 as possible
On PAS 7/10
I can get China & Japan but not India or BBC World
LNB will not switch to 24-hour test stations using vertical polarization Mark the LNB offset present position. Then turn your LNB 90 degrees from its present position. You should be able to receive India & BBC World and also Hope Channel International.
