INFORMATION
ON MINI MEDIA CENTERS
What is a Mini
Media Center?
A Mini Media Center (MMC) is a scaled-down version of a professional studio
which makes television programs. It is equipped with digital equipment,
either DV Cam or SP Beta, and is accredited by the Local Union. Operators
produce high quality digital videos of church and community events.
Why do we need them?
Mini Media Centers are needed to:
1) Powerfully extend the ministry and influence of a church within its
own community
2) Capture and share the rich diversity of Adventist culture around the
world
ATN promotes the establishment
of MMCs to join a growing network of MMCs who co-operate to enhance and
support the mission of the Church around the world by their collective
synergy.
What are the benefits
of joining the MMC Network?
The benefits of belonging to the ATN MMC network are:
- Your MMC can provide
news reports and other material for the ATN broadcasts
- You will receive payment
for video material accepted for broadcast
- You have access to
the global library of video materials
- You can receive training
for the operators from ATN at regular intervals
- Your MMC is included
in our database of recognized MMCs
What are the costs?
The costs and obligations of a MMC are:
- To acquire your own
equipment
- To be responsible
for all operational expenses
- To assume responsibility
for operating according to ATN Production Standards
What are the main
systems available?
- Apple Computer with
Final Cut Pro software
- PC (Many brands) with
Avid Express software
More details
Which system is best?
Both
systems are good. However, we request you to consider the following before
making your decision:
- PC
computers have much more capability for local support throughout the
world than Apple computers.
- Approximately
80% of professional non-linear video editing is done on Avid systems.
When a person trains and becomes familiar on the Avid system they can
easily transition to other Avid's or more advanced Avid editing systems.
- The
professional Adventist media centers such as AMP in California and the
ATN Center at the GC have standardized on the Avid system. If a Mini-Media
Center edits in Avid then all the effects, transitions etc., will transfer
very easily to the Avid system we use in these centers to prepare our
final programming.
Based
on the above considerations, ATN recommends the PC / Avid Express package.
